A Bit About Me
Hello and welcome to my site! I’m Cam LaPorte, a communications professional with an earnest desire towards effectively getting help to those who need it. Armed with a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and a master’s degree in Public Communication from Drexel University, I’m adept in all things communications-related – be that as simple as writing the right e-mail or as comprehensive as a full-length grant proposal. As we continually face dire circumstances with no clear path forward, my desire to better the people and communities around us has become realized now more than ever.
I’ve held positions both in the public and private sectors, either providing a glimpse towards how to best provide for their communities therein. My time in Human Resources at the Philadelphia Water Department was critical in developing a sense of civic pride and civic duty, as the bottom line was always in providing a beneficial service to the city’s constituents. It also sparked an interest in broader conflict resolution and amicably relieving tensions – there are a surprising amount of fires to be put out when working with water, and figuring out how to tackle those with an empathetic lens on either side was incredibly valuable. Being that I’m the middle child between two pugnacious brothers, it’s not surprising that my inborn mediation skills would work their way into a professional toolset.
My time with Comcast Business showed me the power of corporate social responsibility, and what massive change can be brought when working for a business whose founding prospect wasn’t necessarily to help the world. Ensuring that an organization is doing good and giving back to the communities its involved in is keystone towards the success of all parties, as simply working towards bettering a profit margin serves no one but the company itself. In working for them, I had the opportunity to build relationships and plan events to strengthen communities and create a sense of solidarity between the organization and its surroundings.
I hope that within this portfolio you’ll find the same sense of generating public betterment exemplified throughout my work. There are pieces focusing on individual good (mental health awareness), community benefit (helping homeless populations), and social justice initiatives (equitable power concepts) to help bring the change so desperately needed in the world. They are diverse in scope, nature, and construction, owing itself to my ability to tackle any-sized problem – and my desire to make this world better one piece at a time.
